Bible Question: Is there any reall modern day prophets that anyone knows of? |
Bible Answer: Hi Greg, We know there are prophets today because the Bible says that the Holy Spirit gave some as prophets. Eph 4:11, 1 Cor 12:28 I Cor. 14:29-33 gives instruction on how to give a prophecy. I John 4:1 instructs us on what to do when we hear a prophecy. In Rev.19:10 it says that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. There are many claiming to be prophets today. How do we know if they really are? Test the spirits. If what is prophesied: 1. lines up with scripture 2. exalts the name of Jesus 3. comes to pass 4. the first three are done consistantly over time, then one can conclude the person giving the prophecies is a prophet. I know of a few who meet the criteria, but there are many who do not. I know a lot of people who can prophecy (see Acts 2:17), but are not necessarily prophets. I John 4:1 can not be stressed enough. Test the spirits by comparing a prophecy against scripture. This is also important with what a teacher teaches. Even this that I am writing you should be tested against scripture by studying it for yourself. Hope this helps, Bows44 |
