Bible Question:
Where are Bible verses that i can refer to when speaking about the duties and responsibility of pastors? |
Bible Answer: Thank you for asking this question. May i begin by suggesting that you may have your cart ahead of the horse. You have already determined your purpose and are just now looking for Biblical authority? Sorry there is no Biblical authority for the office of Pastor. The only two offices established in the Bible are deacon and elder (I Timothy and Titus). They should be appointed according to their Biblical qualifications, Pastors are usually hired by resume. If you study Eph 4:11 (the only place in the Bible where pastor occurs)you will find it is translated from the "poimen" which is "shepherd" and is part of a list of gifted men given to build and equip the body of Christ. Perhaps Churches have slipped just a bit from the original organization but is all a part of the human condition. I am concerned though when I hear of a mysterious and unvarifiable "call" into the ministry that most Pastors claim. I would like to see them just meet the qualifications as written in Scripture.
