Bible Question: The following example is fiction. So lets say I stole money from a friend and my sister told my mother. I tell my mother this is not true. So she makes me swear on God's name I didn't steal any money. All a while I had actually stole the money. Now a scenario like this happened but it was a little more serious. Now as I kid I remember someone telling me if you swore on God's name to something false you would not be forgiven. Now I am obviously very sorry about this and am repenting. But that fear still remains, that I can never be forgiven. |
Bible Answer: Hello Rebekah, I would not put my trust in what someone told you as a child, but rather in the Word of God! God's Word says no such thing! In Eph. 1:7 we're told, "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace" (NASB) Forgiveness is found In Christ and Him alone! From this verse it's clear that we have: - redemption: through His blood; - the forgiveness of our trespasses: according to the riches of His grace. (Not our sense of them or something we swore on in the past) As Paul instructs us, " Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?"
