Bible Question:
what was paul talking about in ephesian1:1 about heavenly places was he saying that now that we have been adopted by christ that now we sit with him in heavenly places? |
Bible Answer: Hi, cadams... Welcome to the forum! That phrase "in heavenly places" appears in this epistle alone (Ephesians 1:3, 20; 2:6; 3:10; and 6:12). The ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ brings us all heavenly blessing. God takes dead people, making them alive (Ephesians 2:1); and estranged people (Ephesians 2:11-12), a single unified people (Ephesians 2:19). Look at the context of those five instances of the phrase "in heavenly places." Work through each carefully yourself. As you pull out the doctrines yourself, they will be more firmly rooted than if you look to others for quick explanations. Here's a good hint as you study this epistle: The first three chapters of Ephesians is full of indicatives -- it speaks to the doctrinal truths we must understand. The last three chapters are full of imperatives -- it speaks to the responses that necessarily grow out of these truths. In Him, Doc |
