Bible Question (short): Eph 1:18, Inheritance question? |
Question (full): I'm studying Ephesians chapter 1 and wondering if anyone can shed some light on the end of verse 18. Paul is praying for the eyes of our heart to be enlightened, that we may know the hope of his calling, what are the riches of the glory of HIS inheritance in the saints. When I first read it I felt it was talking about the hope we have in Christ resulting in eternal life. I also as I read thought Paul was talking about our inheritance, but by reading it closer, I note that it really says of "His inheritance in the saints." How do I interpret this verse? Is God saying that we are his inheritance? That he counts a relationship with us to be so valuable, that the end of our own hope brings us eternal joy with him and the same is true of God. Our obedience to God brings him eternal joy to inherit us as His own? Not sure if I'm making sense as I type this, but am I right to interpret this verse to say God considers those who are believers in Christ to be an inheritance all his own? Any insight would be appreciated. In Christ, Tealead |
