Bible Question:
Who is "He", Christ or God? In verse 7 it leads me to believe that Christ is "He" in this section. However, in this verse "He" consumates these things in Christ. |
Bible Answer: Greetings James! Excellent question my friend! :-) Eph. 1 is difficult to follow because 1:3-10 is all one sentence in the Greek. Allow me to make sure that I understand your question correctly. Are you asking to whom the 'in Him' refers? If so, allow me to address your question. In Greek, a pronoun must agree with it's antecedent (the noun to which the pronoun refers) in both gender and number. Then, the pronoun will usually refer back to the closest possible noun. In this case, 'in Christ' in v. 10 is the closest possible antecedent for 'in Him'. Therefore, 'in Him' must refer to Christ. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
