AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 6:13 For even the circumcised [Jews] themselves do not [really] keep the Law, but they want to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh [that is, in the fact that they convinced you to be circumcised]. |
Bible Question: What was Pauls point in contrasting boasting in the flesh with boasting in the cross? gal 6:13-14 |
Bible Answer: The heart of man desperately desires to find some reason to pat himself on the back for anything good, and to lay the blame for anything bad somewhere else. Just as you will hear in this forum people who affirm "decisional regeneration" so it was in the time of Paul's first epistle. These folks, however, dressed it all up in the guise of Judaic piety. Part of the fallen nature is to find ways to take glory that properly belongs to God, and shift it to self. Adding the tiniest little bit to the finished work of Christ, renders it pointless and impotent. Either we glory in man (flesh) or you glory in God (Spirit). |
