NASB | Galatians 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:17 For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do. |
Bible Question: I got saved in 2004, but I started to backslide early this year. I just recently came back into fellowship with God. During the times of my backsliding, my heart wasn't being convicted because I kept on doing the same sinful things. Now that I have come back into fellowship with God, I find my heart being convicted again. Does this mean that the Holy Spirit left from me early in 2007, and now it has recently come back? I remember reading somewhere in scripture that once you sin against the Holy Spirit, it will never come back. |
Bible Answer: Hi, jesus1km... I'd see it as evidence that the Holy Spirit is continuing to work in your life. He is showing you that, left to yourself, you'll only wander away. He is reminding you that you need a Savior every day! As the hymn writer Robert Robertson put it, "O to grace how great a debtor Daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter, Bind my wandering heart to Thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it, Seal it for Thy courts above."
