NASB | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 5:16 ¶ But I say, walk habitually in the [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God and His precepts]. |
Subject: Is the Holy Spirit Leading? |
Bible Note: Dear John, If the Jewish Christians "were slow and sluggish regarding their understanding of the Teachings of New Testament Truth," (sic) then modern Christians would be hard pressed to be slower or more sluggish without undergoing a pre-frontal lobotomy. A sound interpretation of the passage falls woefully short if no application is made. A sound interpretation uses an historical-grammatico approach, true, but that approach is not intended to keep us from applying the Scriptures to ourselves. For example, in the parable of Luke 18:9-14, I see more of the publican in me than I do the tax collector. If I do otherwise, then I nullify the Word of God, just as my Jewish forebears had done. If such judgment fell upon them in their self righteousness, of what more severe punishment am I deserving, given so much light? Regardless, your post was very good -- though missing the application. Am I to understand that the "litmus test" I provided was of no value? In Him, Doc |
