Bible Question: Is the old testament mere history? Is there some importance in it? |
Bible Answer: Greetings JCLT2 I think the following Scriptures will help you understand the importance of the Old Testament for us today. 1Cor. 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. the above verse means that all that happened to the Israelites during their 40 years wandering in the wilderness were written for those of us who are alive today, so that we might not make the same mistakes they became guilty of. It is easier to learn from others mistakes, instead of having to find out the hard way. Rom. 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. The things that were written aforetime refers to those things that were written in the Old Testament. It says here in Romans that what was written previously in the Old Testament was written for our learning. So in conclusion it would do us well to read and learn the examples of men and woman in the Old Testament and get a better understanding of the ways and purposes of God. I hope this helps you. |
