AMPLIFIED 2015 | Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. |
Bible Question:
In I corinthans 11: 1 and 2, what was the Apostle Paul saying when he said Follow me as I follow Christ? I think alot of people has taken this way out of context. I believe that what was being said was, view my example follow my example of being a christian, being Christlike because I follow his Christs example. I just believe that alot of people are misapproperating scripture and are saying that Paul was saying follow me like an example, talk like me, be like me, almost to the level of control and manipulation probably without knowing it. This is very confusing and I would just very much appreciate if anyone had any insite by the Spirit of God to shine some light on this frustrating and confusing matter. Thanks in Advance |
Bible Answer: I think you've got it right. I'm training to be a pastor, not that that makes me an expert, but I am educated in this field. Look at what Paul says in Galatians 2:20. He says, "..Christ lives in me.." I believe that this supports the same conclusion that you came to. Christ must live in us, meaning that we must be like Christ and that people should look at us and be able to see Christ in our life. Look at John 15:7. Jesus said, "If you abide in me and my words abide in you..." So we must also speak as Christ spoke, which will come naturally with the new birth, being filled with the Spirit, and as you progress spiritually reading your Bible. In John 8:38-39, Jesus tells the Pharasees, "I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father." They answered and said unto Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children you would do the works of Abraham." The custom of the time was that the sons learned their skill or trade from their father. Jesus was a carpenter because Joseph was a carpenter. Jesus also did as God did because He was the Son of God. This is supported by John 5:19, “Then Jesus answered and said to them, Most assuredly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in a like manner.” So Jesus imitated God the Father and the Pharasees were to imitate Abraham because that was the best example they had. We are not exactly supposed to imitate Paul, but we are to adopt the philosophy he had where we imitate Christ. Although, it would in some ways be great to imitate Paul he was very effective in ministry. We should do what he did, not because Paul did it, but because Jesus wants us to do it. Is Paul God? Of course not! We have the greatest example to follow and that is Jesus Christ. Too many well meaning Christians get off on some tangent with one scripture and before you know it they’re handling snakes, worshiping saints, and casting the devil out of everything. Someone once told me that anyone ignorant enough (and I mean that in the nicest, purest way) or clever enough can make the Bible mean anything. I hope what I have said will help. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. I’ll be glad to clarify anything I can. Jesified |
