Bible Question:
Ga 1:10 ΒΆ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. According to paul, the preacher that belong to God to be a servant of Christ where not seek a please to men, If we seek to please men, we are not a servant of Christ. 1Co 10:33 Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. In that verse, Paul said, He can help peole to salvation to please all men. Input from everyone is very welcome God bless, |
Bible Answer: jlpangilinan,In response to 'contradictions' a verse in the scriptures can not be taken by itself but read in the context of the surrounding verses, the chapter, the book, other books by the same author, the testament in which it is written and finally the whole bible. This is the process. Bare in mind also that the english versions dont always say it the way the Hebrew and Greek do. The context here is not pleasing men by watering down the Gospel. Paul LOVED people that much that he would noever preach another gospel just so they wouldn't get offended. Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Gal 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. Gal 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. In this next scripture Paul talks of pleasing. The context here is not preaching but eating, and the eating of food offered to idols was an issue he had to address. The custom at that time was to make offerings to their gods and they would bring the best they had. A nice pot roast or tenderloin which would end up in the resturants for the people to eat. Paul was talking about not doing or saying anything etc(that to you would seem right) that would cause offence to another believer and which may lead to them leaving the faith. So in eating/saying/drinking..then we are to please but in preaching the Gospel of Christ we are not to do it in a way that will please.ie not watered down. Hope this is helpful yosepy |
