Bible Question: I own my own business and I am involved in a christian group in my area that does things for unfortunate people that may not be able to afford my service I donate my time at a reduce(signifiacant)Charge I do not or expect a benifit from this either by deduction or any other means. The only reward that I get is giving back the talent I was blessed with from GOD. She say's I don't have GOD in my heart. I am new to being a Christian so I don't know if She is right or if this is the way of christianity or if my work has no meaning |
Bible Answer: Dear bro. Handy: The verse I quoted teaches us that we should have a desire in our heart to give of our material gains or talents to God. After we become a Christian, it is important that we live our lives for God. The outward expression of the love which we have experienced in our hearts is seen in our lives. Motive is the main question to be answered when we give or do work? Do I give or work to be noticed of men or receive praise from them? Or do I give or work to please the Lord Jesus and be a help to others? Some people have money, others time and in your case skill through your business which the Lord has blessed you and entrusted you with. As stewarts of what God has given us, it us our reponsibility to use our talents for him and for his glory. For those who give out of a pure heart, the reward they have now is the knowledge that their efforts please the Lord who gave all. It is important to emphasize that good works cannot purchase our eternal redemption, since Christ paid that debt in full. When we trust in him, he dwells in our hearts by his Holy Spirit forever. Giving is motiviated out of love to Christ. God bless you in your efforts to do good to those less fortunate. In our Saviour's name. Robert |
