Bible Question:
How are we supposed to be able to tell the difference between the discipline of the LORD and an attack from the devil? Does anyone have an answer? |
Bible Answer: Hi there. I thought I would take a stab at this since I've struggled a lot with it myself. Gosh, we are almost ashamed to ask this sometimes aren't we? But its an important thing to learn. I've had to learn it the hard way ... especially being a young Christian. The Bible tells us to test the spirits whether or not they are from God. But that's kinda hard since you can't exactly site God and the Devil down and ask them "which one of you are doing this?" I think one needs to look at the fruit that is coming our from the "attack" or the "discipline" 1. God is SLOW to anger and ABOUNDING in loving kindness. The Devil is NOT 2. Godly sorry leads to REPENTANCE and becoming closer to God. The Devil's work gets you farther away from God. 3. God's fruits: love, peace, long suffering, kindness, joy 4. Satans fruits: Anger, bitterness, accusation (inwardly and from others), feelings of lonelyness, isolation, helplessness, despare and CONFUSION!!! HINT HINT!! ;-) Personally, my best defense to be able to tell the difference comes from being in the Word ... like all the time. The more time I spend in the Bible, the more filled I become and the more my discernment becomes more empowered. And the more you pray and draw close to God, the harder it is for the Devil to keep his hooks in you. And also, the closer you draw to God, the less things like "discipline" become a concern. I think its great that you asked this question. It shows that He is really working in your life! |
