NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:8 we are [as I was saying] of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. |
Bible Question: Thank you for clearing that up. Does this mean then that those who were resurrected may have had conscious knowledge that their spirits had been in Heaven (if they were saved, of course). I know if my spirit was in Heaven, I wouldn't want to be sent back to my body! :-) |
Bible Answer: Dear Shibboleth, Anything we might say about it would be speculation. But it does seem reasonable that they didn't remember their experience. Considering the strangeness of the few descriptions of supernatural experiences we have from Scripture, it is possible they simply "don't compute" for the living. Perhaps some of that is simply a part of being a whole human being (body and soul united). Or perhaps it is the effect of our fallen nature. I don't think there is much we can say on this point without getting out way over our heads and far away from the sure footing of the revelation in Scripture. Someday, though, we'll see even as we are seen! In the mean time, to live is Christ, to die is gain! In Him, Doc |
