AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:8 we are [as I was saying] of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. |
Bible Question: In 2Cor 5:8 is this refering to life immediately after death? Please give scriptures to help me! Thanx!! |
Bible Answer: Greetings Bernie B! Let's look at the context of 2 Corinthians 5 in order to answer your question. Beginning in v. 1, Paul appeals to our knowledge that we have a heavenly dwelling, built by God, waiting for us in heaven. In v. 2, he states that groan now, because we long to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling. In v. 4, he again stresses that while we are in this 'earthly tent', we groan and long for our 'heavenly tent'. In v. 5, he states that God made us to be clothed with our heavenly tent and that the Spirit is our guarantee of what is to come. In v. 6, he states that as long as we are in this 'earthly tent' we are away from the Lord. In v. 8, he states that we would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So, Paul's teaching is quite clear. While in this body, we are away from the Lord and away from our heavenly body. When we are away from this body, we will be at home with the Lord and in our heavenly body. No mention is made here, or anywhere else, of any kind of delay in between. So, yes, as soon as the life of a believer ends, a believer is at home with the Lord. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
