NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:4 For while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened [often weighed down, oppressed], not that we want to be unclothed [separated by death from the body], but to be clothed, so that what is mortal [the body] will be swallowed up by life [after the resurrection]. |
Subject: We groan for our new body |
Bible Note: Searcher, Doesn't this verse say that we presently groan, desiring to be clothed with our immortal body, not that we will be groaning at some time in the future? And not that we would put off our immortal body, to put on our immortal body at some later time, but that we would put our immortal body upon our mortal body? 1Co 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."
