Bible Question: Would God want us to visit our dead love one's graves? Sometimes I am asked if I have been to see any of my relation's grave. I haven't except for my brother and sister that I never got to see. I remember being with my grandfather and great-grandmother as I was going up. I have quite a lot of memories about them. I have read in the Bible when Moses past, that the Israelites had so much time to mourn and then go on. Would it be the samething (mourning)to visit a grave site? |
Bible Answer: Dear Bailybear, To visit the grave of a loved one is not a sin. It is symbolic of the affection and respect you had for them. How could it be wrong to pause and remember those things that made them so dear to you? To say a prayer of thanksgiving to God for placing them in your life, to contemplate the brevity of your own live and to ask Him for the grace to make your life count for Christ. I see nothing wrong in that. I do think it is wrong to try to speak to those who have died. But if you glorify God by what you do, He will be pleased. Grace and Peace, John |
