Bible Note:  Dear EdB,

Yes, you're right! Indeed, the Lord tells us, "For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you" (1 Corinthians 11:19) God has graciously brought all of those heresies you mention -- and a variety of others you could have mentioned -- that we, His holy catholic church, might learn (Ephesians 4:8-15). It is a blessing that the church has done precisely what you suggest, exposing the teaching of men to the truth of His Word. It is marvelous that across the denominational spectrum there is so much consensus for those whose sole authority is the Scripture. So many giants of the faith from the earliest days of the primitive church, even up to this very day. God's plundering of the world, and gifting that plunder to the church, is a marvelous thing!
