NASB | 2 Corinthians 1:20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 1:20 For as many as are the promises of God, in Christ they are [all answered] "Yes." So through Him we say our "Amen" to the glory of God. |
Bible Question: I'm having a hard time believing God's promises. It seams like the ones in the Bible were for people He was talking to, not us. For example, He told women in the old testament He would open up their wombs, not me. And He told the people in Jeremiah He has plans to prosper not harm them, again, not ME. Why do we quote these verses like we believe them? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Anna... You sure ask good questions! Frankly, people do tend to apply some promises to themselves that were given to others. So the question you are asking is really a matter of proper exegesis and hermeneutics. For your purposes, find a good commentary -- I'd recommend John Gill. Remember that if a passage is didactic (teaching something) you can be pretty sure it applies to all of us. Remember, God's Word is a very personal message to His people. The fact that the images were "snapped" in specific times under specific circumstances in the past simply demonstrates the amazing power of God to speak timelessly! Lastly, stop thinking about ME and start thinking about HIM. When you do that, many things will open for you! In Him, Doc |
