Bible Question: Does anybody have any scriptures that would in any way indicate that it would be ok for a christian to file for a divorce. |
Bible Answer: Hi DrewBoy First I would say that God always approves of forgiveness and restitution. Divorce tares apart and God 's desire is to bring together. In short, God hates divorce. Matt 19:8 He *said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. Having said that, there is this: Matt 5:32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. Regardless of the reason, weather it be justified because of unchastity, or if the spouse commits adultery. It is hardness of heart that permits it, though it may be legal. I Believe it is God's desire to restore, and not to separate. If one can find it in their heart to forgive, and seek a restored relationship, I believe God would support that as the Scripture says; "but from the beginning it has not been this way." We should never let a hard heart and unforgiveness lead us, but His Word and His desires should be our guide. Of corse, if there is an unrepentant continuing behavior, that must be considered as well. God bless John |
