NASB | 1 Corinthians 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is within you, whom you have [received as a gift] from God, and that you are not your own [property]? |
Bible Question: Since obesity is not good for our bodies, would you consider an obese Christian to be living in sin? If the Holy Spirit uses that verse to convict you personally about some area in your life, OK. But to make this a blanket command to all believers about tattoos, or what we wear, etc. is, IMO, using exegetical gymnastics rather than "handling accurately the word of truth." (2 Tim 2:15) |
Bible Answer: yes, avoidable obesity, that not caused by a medical condition, is living in sin. it is a symptom of greed. it is not 'keeping under our whole body'. and tattoos are the same. and so are extravagant clothes. the verse covers everything we do that is dishonouring to the Lord. |
