NASB | 1 Corinthians 4:7 For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it? |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 4:7 For who regards you as superior or what sets you apart as special? What do you have that you did not receive [from another]? And if in fact you received it [from God or someone else], why do you boast as if you had not received it [but had gained it by yourself]? |
Bible Question: I'm having trouble understanding what I Corinthians 4:7-9 is saying, I need an explanation on it. What does it mean? |
Bible Answer: Greetings, 1 Corinthians 4:7-9 "For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it? Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you! For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men." [ESV] Paul is using much sarcasm and irony here, to get the Corinthians to see just how poor they really are because of their haughtiness and spiritual immaturity in comparison with the apostles. Blessings to you, Makarios |
