AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 2:1 And when I came to you, brothers and sisters, proclaiming to you the testimony of God [concerning salvation through Christ], I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom [no lofty words of eloquence or of philosophy as a Greek orator might do]; |
Subject: Did Shakespeare help write the KJV? |
Bible Note: To quote Barnard Shaw (an ardent unbeliever), the treasures of the English language are "Shakespeare, Milton and the Bible." Naturally the order is wrong. So much beautiful prose, poetry, theater and even some fine music for voice were born in that time, but unlike the Italian Renaissance, the most lasting from all that great creative energy is the best translation into another language of the Bible. It's imperfect, but it's still the best. It's so good that it invites plagiarism, and it saddens me that it is no longer the chief source for preaching. I console myself with the fact that the power of God's Word is not a matter of style. |
