Bible Question:
Good Day, Can you provide some positive references for the biblical characteristics of men? I know little about women but feel that men overall have some issues with regard to worldly things that cause us problems in our relationships. Control, greed, etc, these persuits seem to cause us to put our values in the wrong place. Thanks for your help. |
Bible Answer: Hi Ron Hilton, Some women might say that the main characteristic of men is that they are quitters. They quit their marriages, their jobs, their responsibilities. When I read your question, 1 Samuel 4:9, KJ, came to mind, "Be strong, and quit yourselves like men...quit yourselves like men, and fight." I say that tongue-in-cheek for I know that "to quit yourselves" means to "act like, to play the part as men". So 1 Samuel 4:9 tells them to "take courage and be men," and 2 Samuel 10:12 tells us to "Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous." "Be strong" is a good characteristic of a man. 1 Corinthians 16:13 says "Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong." But the bottom line I would think is verse 14, "Let all that you do be done in love." That is doing the Lord's work as Timothy and Paul were doing. 1 Corinthians 16:10-24. My love to you all. So its not, "Be strong and fight" but rather "Be strong and let all that you do be done in love." From the heart, Ray |
