Bible Question: How can the current practices of many evangelicals be reconciled with the instructions in this verse without resorting to cessationist contrivances? |
Bible Answer: We must recognize that when First Corinthians was written that the apostles were still alive and there was only the OT scriptures. In the early days of the NT church there was prophesy-but I do not believe it was special revelation-if you do a study of the word prophesy it could mean a powerful word from God like an exhortation or rebuke-prophesy in the NT was not divine revelation-we must hold to a close canon. Prophecy can also mean the preaching of the Bible-expounding the Scriptures. |
