NASB | 1 Corinthians 14:19 however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 14:19 nevertheless, in public worship I would rather say five understandable words in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue [which others cannot understand]. |
Bible Question: What does chapter 14:15 really mean when saying I pray in the spirit and with my mind. If I'm praying with tongues I dont know what I saying. Please give clarity. the key word is understanding Greek meaning? |
Bible Answer: Simply stated, the use of the tongues in church is irrelevant if there is no interpretation or understanding. No one can benefit from tongues privately in worship. If no one in the church can understand, no one is being edified. Think about this, 5,000 words of instruction is the primary purpose of saving those who are lost, then you would have to agree that tongues would never reach an unbeliever to the Lord. Which is the reason why you would need an interpreter. So praying in an manner that is not understanding does nothing for the body. |
