NASB | 1 Corinthians 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 13:1 ¶ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love [for others growing out of God's love for me], then I have become only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal [just an annoying distraction]. |
Bible Question: Which translation/version of the Bible did use for the first time "love" instead of the more theologically accurate word "charity" in Corinthians 13? What year was it published? I would be very grateful for any information on the subject. |
Bible Answer: Word Study ... Agape - (love, charity) ... dkenarov, greetings. There are two translations, that I know of, that translate apape as charity in this chapter: -King James Version published in 1611 -Wycliffe New Testament published in 1388 The modernized WNT still uses charity. I know the KJV translates agape love 86 times, and charity 27 times. I'm not sure of the WNT count. Agape is the love that expects nothing back. Searcher |
