Subject: Do we need to ask for "gifts" ? |
Bible Note: Hi Emmaus, "I think it tells us God give differing gifts to people, but we should strive, desire and pray for the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, and the greatest of these is charity or love." Your statement that the greater gifts, the theological virtues, of faith, hope and charity, is not stated in either 1 Corinthians 12:31 1 Corinthians 13 (which is the description of Goly love) and is not verified by 1 Corinthians 14:1-2 Pursue love AND strive for the spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians chapters 11-14 is dealing with spiritual gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 Paul' teaching in Corinthians 13 on love is not that love should replace these gifts, but is necessary for their use. The 'greater gift' Paul states is prophesy. God bless. |
