AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 12:31 But earnestly desire and strive for the greater gifts [if acquiring them is going to be your goal]. And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one of the choicest graces and the highest of them all: unselfish love]. |
Bible Question: We are told to "desire the greater gifts." What are they? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Rom 12:6-8; Eph 4:11; 1 Cor 12:7-10, 28-31 ... Mommapbs, I think this has been discussed before. The gift lists are not inclusive. But we are looking at 1 Corinthians 12:28-31 Verse 28 say "And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues." So I take the greatest gift as apostles and the least gift as various kinds of tongues, or all four (gifts of healings, helps, administrations, various kinds of tongues). ... The same order appears in verses 29-30, expect helps and administrations do not appear ... interpretation is added Verses 8-10 has a similiar list word of wisdom, word of knowledge, 9 faith, gifts of healing, 10 effecting of miracles, prophecy, distinguishing of spirits, various kinds of tongues, interpretation of tongues. However, all gifts are needed, no gift is possessed by everyone and no one has them all. We cannot look down on those with the hand or ear gifts. Also, the Spirit decides who gets which gift.
