NASB | 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one [Holy] Spirit we were all baptized into one body, [spiritually transformed--united together] whether Jews or Greeks (Gentiles), slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one [Holy] Spirit [since the same Holy Spirit fills each life]. [Rom 3:22; Gal 3:28] |
Bible Question: Do Christians receive the Holy Spirit when baptized in the name of Jesus, or is it a separate event? Acts 2:38 indicates that it is received along with baptism, but in Acts 10:44, the Holy Spirit came upon the household before they were baptized. Is it then possible, for a fully committed Christian to be baptized in the church, and not receive the Holy Spirit? |
Bible Answer: Hi katlr, Though this is a much debated topic, I believe 1 Cor. 12:13 is very clear: "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. " I hope this helps, BradK |
