Subject: speaking in tongue |
Bible Note: Mr. EdB has posted an excellent explanation of spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues but it seems to me there's just one thing missing. Correct me if I'm mistaken as I might be but isn't the following true? There's not one single instance in the NT other than in Acts 2 with the establishment of the church and Acts 10 with Cornelius, where people in the NT received this miraculous powers ONLY with the laying on of hands by the Apostles? As a matter of fact, Acts 8 makes this very plain. There, people were baptized and became christians and then only after the laying on of hands by the Apostles did they received these kinds of miraculous powers. The baptism of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 and 10 was done for very specific reasons, 1) to establish the church and 2) to endorse the sharing of this Gospel message with Gentiles as well as Jews, respectively. Since we have no more living Apostles amongst us, it's difficult to believe in the modern manifestation of miracles from common men and women, even christians in today's world. Again, I may be mistaken, if so please feel free to correct me. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
