Bible Question: 1 Corinthians 11:23-24 Recounting that the Lord "took bread," "broke it" and had "given thanks," and by connecting the Christian liturgy to the events of Jesus' Last Supper, how does Paul differentiate it from pagan worship? This is a study question, it is difficult for me to interpret Scripture since I am new at this. I will appreciate your help. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Avila... Welcome to the forum! Context is always an essential part of rightly interpreting anything, and that is especially true of the Scriptures. Every word is in the context of other words; every sentence in the context of other sentences; every periscope in the context of other periscopes. Since this is part of your schoolwork, I will suggest that you do the following. Search backwards from the passage in question to see where pagan worship is mentioned. note, of course, that those particular words may not appear. Consequently, you have to read carefully. When you understand what Paul says about pagan worship, and what Paul says about Communion, you will be in a good position to compare them. In Him, Doc |
