Bible Question: The KJV has it as (ought the woman to have power on her head) The NIV (ought to have a sign of authority on her head) What exactly was Paul trying to say? Ive heard lately (the woman ought to have a choise) is thr correct translation. Thanks Terry |
Bible Answer: Hello terryandangie, The problem is in the changes from 17th century English to today. The NIV rendering is how we use the terms in modern times. Using "power" in KJV is synonomous, but we don't use it that way. What was Paul trying to Say? The passage is dealing with the concept of headship. When the church assembled, the women were to demonstrate this headship by covering their hair. This did two things: 1. It covered their glory (hair v. 15) and 2. It covered the man's glory (the woman v. 7). This allows only God's glory to be shown. I'm not sure where you heard that there was a choice, since none is mentioned in the passage. Steve |
