Bible Question:
Hi all, good evening, and I want to grow in my faith becuase I'm only so mature, even though I've came along way since 2 years, but I still have a lot to grow...I dont' totally understand this passage in "1 Corinthians 10:25" Where he talks about eating meat is good, but then you should only meat from the meat market, and then he goes on saying if I eat meat from those who are not believers, i must eat it, but the only way I shouldn't should be if they say "that food was offered to idols".. I'm not sure what this is, is he talking about actual meat you eat or something else, or if he's talking about meat, what does he mean? |
Bible Answer: As I understand it, there were a lot of idol worship where people sacrificed animals to other gods. The meat from the sacrifices was then given sold in the meat market. Some Christians had a problem with their conscience if they ate such meat. I believe that Paul's position on this was that any meat is alright to eat because it is sanctified by prayer. However, he would not eat meat offered to idols if it would encourage another Christian to eat the meat and their conscience bother them afterwards. The main point is that we are always to walk in love by being willing to sacrifice our own freedom if necessary so that others will not be harmed by our freedom. That's the best I can do to explain it. |
