NASB | 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word--He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy]. |

Bible Note: Good post, as always, Kalos! I haven't been following this thread, so perhaps what I have to say someone else mentioned. If so, I apologize for the redundancy. One other reason to avoid masturbation, at least for married people, is that it defrauds one's spouse (1 Corinthians 7:4-5). As John Gill puts it, it is a sin "to withhold due benevolence, or the conjugal debt" or to "abuse it [our bodies] by self-pollution, fornication, adultery, sodomy, or any acts of uncleanness." He goes on to say that the spouse "only has a power over it [our bodies], a right to it, and may claim the use of it: this power over each other's bodies is not such, as that they may, by consent, either the husband allow the wife, or the wife the husband, to lie with another."
