NASB | 1 Corinthians 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Corinthians 1:21 For since the world through all its [earthly] wisdom failed to recognize God, God in His wisdom was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached [regarding salvation] to save those who believe [in Christ and welcome Him as Savior]. |
Bible Question:
Dear saints, Blessings to all in Jesus' name! Does this verse mean that the 'end justifies the means' in the preaching of the Gospel? (I have heard such said in defense of preaching a 'fun' or 'cool' Gospel, or the 'Prosperity Message.' i.e. "Whatever brings 'em to Christ is OK!") In Christ, charis |
Bible Answer: Dear Charis, The end DOES justify the means. The problem is the end. If the end is anything less than the glory of God, then the means will always be immoral. If the end is the glory of God, no immorality or foolishness is possible, because no immorality glorifies God. In this case, if the end is to “bring people to Christ” rather than TO GLORIFY GOD in bringing people to Christ, then any kind of foolishness is acceptable. Col 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Peace, |
