Bible Question:
2 Peter 1:1-9 I am confused. How could someone 1. Be barren and unfruitful but be saved.(Matt.7:19) 2."Forget" they are saved.(2 Cor. 13:5) 3.Lack all of the qualities listed (virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love, and be saved?) (Luke 3:8,Mark 4:20) Many other verses I could list if necessary. |
Bible Answer: Baptistbred, A lot depends on how you view and define salvation and or justification. Is it a once and only event or a process that starts with Justification by grace through faith in Jesus and grows as we are conformed to Him by God's grace working in us? Like all children, the children of God grow in wisdom and knowlege and understanding and obedience. So that justification begins with God's unmerited grace while were still his enemies (Rom 5:10)but it does not end there. It is only because of the presence of God's grace in our lives that we are able to grow in our relationship with Him. Think of how slow the apostles and disciples were in responding to the teachings of Jesus. Yet they grew spititually by grace, stumbling and falling and crawling and finally walking by faith because of the life of God in them, grace. Are we ever done in our growth in the knowledge of the love of God and our efforts to imitate our Savior? Emmaus |
