NASB | Romans 8:13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 8:13 for if you are living according to the [impulses of the] flesh, you are going to die. But if [you are living] by the [power of the Holy] Spirit you are habitually putting to death the sinful deeds of the body, you will [really] live forever. |
Subject: Is this physical or spiritual death? |
Bible Note: I suppose this verse and the context is to the believers. Paul was addressing to "my brethren"? I am puzzled why it is stated in the future tense - WILL die. If we continue to put off what we learn from the scriptures. If we continue the old ways of dealing with sin instead of obeying to our best ability, we will die. But what death is it? Is it speaking of a dying of the conscience? Is it numbing of our spirtual sensor/radar so that it is no longer functional that is no longer in tune to God's direction? |
