Bible Note: Gracefull, you make a good point in saying that we do learn from false teaching as well as from true teaching. In fact, I tried to make a similar point in a response fairly recently in which I postulated that false teaching is important in the sense that true Christians need to be armed with both a knowledge of the kinds of errors that are being taught as truth and a thorough knowledge of what the truth of Scripture is. Jesus was well versed in the false doctrines that were floating around in His time. So was Paul. And in like manner, so should we be. It's difficult to prove a doctrine false unless we know two things. We must have a working knowledge of what the false doctrine is. And we must know what the true, biblical doctrine is. I've read entries on this forum that indicate strongly that the participants in the melee know neither. --Hank |
