NASB | Romans 6:22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 6:22 But now since you have been set free from sin and have become [willing] slaves to God, you have your benefit, resulting in sanctification [being made holy and set apart for God's purpose], and the outcome [of this] is eternal life. |
Bible Question: Please comment on the phrases in these two versions of Rom 6:22 referring to holiness (living free from sin) upon salvation- "you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification". And " you have your present reward in holiness". I have been "lit up" by the factual simplicity here! Brief thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Lori... Welcome to the forum! When we speak of sanctification of the believer, we generally do so in two broad categories: Positional sanctification -- sometimes called definitive or absolute sanctification: This has to do with the believer's standing or status with God. It is not something that is attained, rather it is something that is a work of God though grace (Acts 20:32; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 6:11; Hebrews 10:10, 14). Progressive sanctification: Is an on-going process in which the believer becomes increasingly more righteous in heart, mind, and conduct (Leviticus 11:44; Matthew 5:48; Romans 6:22; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-16). Progressive sanctification has its final consummation for the believer after this live in glorification (Romans 6:5; Colossians 3:4; 1 John 3:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18). In Him, Doc |
