Bible Question: Can you give me the scripture references that tell us that we are no longer bound by the laws of the Old Testament. Jesus said in Matt 5:17 that He had not come to abolish the laws of the prophets but I do remember that we are also told that we are not bound by the O.T. laws. Or is this only in reference to not having to sacrifice a lamb for forgiveness of sins because of Jesus' personal sacrifice for sin? |
Bible Answer: Greetings IHH and welcome to the forum, In Matt 22:37-39 Jesus gives us the two greatest commandments: Love the Lord God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind and Love your neighbor as yourself. If you obey these two commandments then you will be obeying the 10 commandments. All commandments are encompassed in these 2 commandments. The other main OT laws were given in the book of Leviticus. The majority of them had to do with sacrifices. We were released from these sacrifices when Jesus became the final sacrifice for our sins. Other OT laws included laws that boiled down to using handwashing to not spread germs. Therefore, whether we are bound by the OT laws are basically mute since Jesus reinerated them while He was on earth in the NT. If you have questions about other laws in the OT that you are questioning please let me know and I will answer them for you. prayon |
