AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 6:12 ¶ Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts and passions. |
Bible Question: give specific examples of how sins the body are to be refused and specific examples of how one offers one's body to God. from romans 6;12-14 |
Bible Answer: I agree with others who have answered this question. My take is; we are to offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God. That probably means everything we have is for Him to use as a sacrifice of Love (3 John something-or-other). Also, we are to be temples. I bet someone was asking Paul, "Should we go to the temple to worship God?" and Paul said, "Our bodies are temples. Take care of them." See, in the OT, the temple was where God's spirit lived. The priests offered sacrifices there, to where his spirit hung over the Ark of the Covenant. In the New Testament, the Holy Spirit lives IN us, instead of a huge gold building. So, since God's spirit is in us, Romans tells us to get rid of sins and un-godly things. "…For fresh water and salt water cannot flow from the same spring." (James 3:11-12) |
