NASB | Romans 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 5:14 Yet death ruled [over mankind] from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who had not sinned as Adam did. Adam is a type of Him (Christ) who was to come [but in reverse--Adam brought destruction, Christ brought salvation]. [Gen 5:5; 7:22; Deut 34:5] |
Bible Question: What is unique about Adam's trangression that Paul indicates no one else has sinned like his offense? Also, what is the significance of Adam a type of the 'One to come,' Jesus? |
Bible Answer: What follows is speculation, but it might be of some help. We are told at 1st Tim 2:13-15, that it was only the woman who was deceived, and that Adam knew full well just what he was intending to do. Jesus we are told, knew no sin, but allowed himself to be made sin in order to save His bride, that is you and I. It is not, in my considered opinion impossible that Adam might just have done the same to save his wife Eve. Note he did not go to the tree as Eve did, but took the fruit from her, i.e. he in type took her sin on himself This is what I think Paul had in mind at Romans 5:14.
