NASB | Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 3:20 For no person will be justified [freed of guilt and declared righteous] in His sight by [trying to do] the works of the Law. For through the Law we become conscious of sin [and the recognition of sin directs us toward repentance, but provides no remedy for sin]. |
Bible Question: Romans 3:20 states "no one will be decalared righteous in His (God's) sight by observing the law, rather, through the law we become conscious of sin." Does that mean that without the law (i.e. 10 commandments) all of mankind would be unaware of his sin? beacuse I've noted christains often use the arguement,"how do you know the differnce between right and wrong", alluding to the fact that if we evolved no such thing would exist. i've always kind of understood it to be that the spirit convicts people....but then in romans it says that man wouldn't be aware of his sin if it weren't for the law. |
Bible Answer: The Conscious is present in all of Mankind, however if we are not following God then there is a chance the conscious can be seared or hardened. For this purpose the Law was created. Look at Genesis 4, Abel received the blessing of God because his sacrifice was consider more acceptable to God, its not that God didn't love Cain,Cains heart or the motive thier of wasn't consistent with what God desired from him, not to mention the fact that this was a precursor to the sacrifice mentioned in the Law. God in the original intent of His Heart and plan from the beginning was to make us all in His image and likeness, this process in the garden was interupted by our will against His, not yeilding to Him and His desire, by eating of the tree was in direct violation to the prescrided Law or the requirement He set forth. Sin consciousness entered the picture and we new we were naked. In our failed attempt we decide a covering was needed by using a leaf and hiding ourself from His presence. We by the way are doing this very thing today if we are not walking with Him in relationship to Jesus His gift to us. Note God came on the seen and made a covering for us out of animal skin, a life for a life, you ask what life, eternal life, we lost something that day eternal life with God in the garden, so Gods solution was to show us that only through this sacrifice by the way I believe it was a Lamb, but it does not clearly say which would point to Jesus the lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world. So God knew there would be an enormous cost to bringing man back to Himself. So the conscious was present in the garden and beyond, we hid ourself from the very one whom who wanted to teach us how to be like Him and to commune with Him in the garden forever. The leaf represents our works, constantly trying to please Him by the deeds of our hand, the leaf, just as Cain did, and it still was not acceptable to Him, He pointed to an animal and finally a Lamb which which would leave the garden and give Himself for us all, the true covering in the garden which still hides our nakedness from God at the thrown. The Law was a task master which was there to teach us how to act, not unlike our parents teaching us the diffence between right and wrong, even though we already knew wether we did something wrong in our hearts, by the Spirit of God as you mentioned earlier above. The Bible however also mentions that the Spirit will not strive in the hearts of men forever, so the real question is what are you waiting for, If you call upon Jesus' name he will open the door unto you. I don't know your circimstance but He does, don't waste your time trying to get cleaned up before you take a shower, He Jesus accepts you where you are and and who you are. Don't waste you time picking leaves when the Lamb has already been slain and God is holding His hand out to you with the only covering that is acceptable in His site. I know this was a round about way of giving you the answer, however I hope it still brings you to the truth. God Bless Gburlyman |
