NASB | Romans 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 3:20 For no person will be justified [freed of guilt and declared righteous] in His sight by [trying to do] the works of the Law. For through the Law we become conscious of sin [and the recognition of sin directs us toward repentance, but provides no remedy for sin]. |
Bible Question: I've heard that we don't follow the 10 Commandments anymore, instead we follow a "Moral Law". If we don't follow God's Morals than whose morals do we follow? |
Bible Answer: In brief, the moral law reflects the transcendant nature of God and is forever binding. As opposed to the ceremonial or dietary laws. Of course Christ is the fulfillment of the entire law. As Christians with a new nature, our desire should be to live pure lives in the power of Christ. You are not saved by the law. The law is the schoolmaster that drives you to the Cross and makes you realized your inability to save oneself and there by adhere to imputed righteousness of Christ. After the new birth you now have the power to say yes to Christ and no to sin. Moral issues are addressed in the 10 comands. such as murder, adultery, etc. As Christians we should of course avoid these sins. Other sins, not mentioned in the comands. are fornication, bitterness, envy, debauchary, drunkeness, homosexuality, etc. There are many others. So we do follow the 10 comand.as well as other moral absolutes in scripture. The important things is that we don't follow them for justification but rather for sanctification. Rom 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. 2 Gal 2:16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified. |
