Bible Question:
Hi BibleForums. My question today is in the book of Romans 2:7. The version of the bible that I'm reading is "The new international reader's version". It talks about God judges fairly. It says in that passage that "7God will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good." My question today, that's true? If I keep on doing the good things I do I will be accepted into heaven? Thank You |
Bible Answer: Hi Jason, This is the NASB version: Rom 2:6 who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS: Rom 2:7 to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life; This is the same passage in the English Standard Version: 7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; This is not saying that God gives eternal life to those who do good works. What it is saying is that God gives eternal life to those who seek for glory and honor and immortality. Those who seek these things seek them by patiently continuing to do good. The idea that entrance to heaven can be bought with good works, conflicts with the rest of scripture. The New Int. Reader's Version translation of this passage seems to me to be a rather loose translation, and does not seem to me to correctly convey the intent of this passage. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
