Bible Question: I dont know much about the bible, maybe that's why im so confused! But here is my question, I know that Jesus died for our sins and that we need to accept him as our savior to enter Heaven. But what about all the people before His time, were they saved? And how where they if they still had their sins on their souls. I believe that i do need to accept him and i do, I just dont understand about before him and why did God decide to send him down to earth to die for our sins? Why was it necessary? What needed to change? Was all these souls going to hell and God wanted to do something about it? |
Bible Answer: There was never a "before Jesus" time! Read John 1:1-17 to gain a sense of the pre-existence of the eternal Christ. There was a time, however, when "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (see John 1:14). This is the Incarnation: when God became man. The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Yes, people were saved who lived before the Incarnation (see Hebrews 11). John the Baptist showed the way to the Christ and he said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." (John 1:29). The Law never saved anyone. Jesus by the work He accomplished on the cross in the shedding of His blood made possible the forgiveness of sin -- past, present and future -- for God's people in every age and for all time. --Hank |
