Bible Question:
I was watching the catholic network here in alabama. There was a former baptist lady on there who converted to what she called "Jesus's true and only church". She said the Holy Spirit directed her to go back home where she belonged. She said all her life she was taught the catholic church was anti-christ and now she feels she has converted to the "first and only church of God".They are insinuating that protestants are being fooled to believe they are misled and not in the right church and that the faith the Bible talks about is "the catholic faith". I was raised catholic and was a miserable person until I found that Christ had risen just for me. Now, she has gone back to her roots as she called it. Saying that all the sacraments should be followed, and that mary is the mother of God.....now who is being misled. It just bothers me that they think they are the first and only true church,. any comments? I was very bothered by them saying that the catholic church is the one handed down by the apostles and that is the faith as christians we should partake of. She mentioned reading a boat load of history on the church and finding out the faith of all the saints like st. patrick and others and after reading of their journey decided she should join them..........any comments would be appreciated. sharon |
Bible Answer: Greetings, Sharon! Verses such as Acts 15:41, 16:5 and Romans 16:4 indicate that there were many churches, at least in the time of the writing of the book of Acts! I believe that it is best to define just what "the Church" is, rather than singling out which church is the "best" or "only" church. I agree with you, if anyone stands atop a pedestal and proclaims that their church is following the one and only correct way by observing particular sacraments and/or saying that Mary should be revered in any other way than a human woman, then they are obviously misguided and as far away as possible from the true meaning of what is known as "the Church." The true "Church" are those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, to be forever in fellowship and in service to our Lord God. Blessings to you, Makarios |
