Bible Note: Hi Cheri, I'd like to just add, it's not that you'd be giving less, its that you'd be paying less taxes, a totally separate issue in my mind. Jesus said give to caeser what is caeser's, so if you are fulfilling the legal requirements of what to pay, why pay more? Paul said of a slave, don't be concerned about your slavery, but if you can become free, then do that. (1 Cor 7:21 Were you called while a slave? Do not worry about it; but if you are able also to become free, rather do that.) So then Paul acknowledges the desirablity of an unfettered legal status. For me, this is a guiding principle in these sorts of decisions. I can give to caeser what belongs to him, according to his rules, and keep the rest to be used, hopefully, to the glory of God. So this is just my opinion - the beauty is, we are all to give according to what we've decided in our hearts, and you understand that, so you'll do just fine, whatever you choose to do.
